Governors affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have affirmed that the party continues to be a strong presence in Nigeria.
Bala Mohammed, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, made this statement following a meeting held in Jos on Saturday.
He expressed confidence that the party would navigate its current difficulties, describing them as ‘minor setbacks’ that will soon be resolved.
Mohammed urged supporters of the PDP and all Nigerians not to lose faith in the party.
“The Forum acknowledges the concerns raised by Nigerians, including the founding members, elders, and supporters of our esteemed party regarding the apparent divisions within our ranks.
“Nonetheless, we want to emphasize our unwavering commitment to fostering unity and cohesion within the party.
“This is a party that Nigerians have trusted as the premier platform for delivering democratic governance; it remains the leading choice,” he stated.
The chairman also urged the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to arrange a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) to address internal disputes.
He praised the contributions of National Assembly members elected under the party’s banner toward advancing democracy.
However, Mohammed called on the National Assembly leadership to thoroughly scrutinize all proposed legislation to ensure fairness, equity, and balanced national development.
Expressing concern over the ongoing economic crisis in the country, he urged President Bola Tinubu to urgently reassess his administration’s macroeconomic and fiscal strategies to better the lives of Nigerians.
In addition, Mohammed thanked Governor Caleb Mutfwang for hosting his fellow governors in Plateau and expressed sympathy for the state’s recent wood market fire incident.
